Justice Waldrop Leaving Third Court of Appeals

Third Court of Appeals Justice Alan Waldrop (pictured) has tendered his resignation to the Governor, effective September 10.  Austin Legal covers the story here.

Governor Perry appointed Justice Waldrop to the Court in August 2005, and he was elected to a six-year term in 2006.  His early departure allows the Governor to appoint a replacement to fill his unexpired term.  The replacement must run in 2012, but will benefit from incumbency and on-the-job experience.

The Court will have two new justices (out of six) within the next few months.  In addition to Justice Waldrop’s replacement, voters will decide in November whether Kurt Kuhn or Melissa Goodwin will fill the seat Justice Jan Patterson is vacating.
